Pact is delighted to have received close to $5000 from the Healthy Eating, Healthy Action fund of Public Health South.
About $3700 will be used for the Grow Your Own Garden Group and $1000 will be used the Fun Food Factory.
Grow Your Own Garden Group
Healthy lifestyles coordinator Carina Perner says this group will operate from The Armitage in Dunedin, but will go out to Pact homes which would like garden work done.
"Some of the houses are happy to do their own gardening and clients want to keep it like that, which is great, but some are happy for us to do it."
Most of the money will be spent at Pact’s Hazlett Road to buy garden materials, compost and tools. The aim will be to eventually sell the vegetables to Pact’s houses, or even at farmers’ markets.
Fun Food Factory
These cooking lessons are underway at The Armitage kitchen, twice a week. There is a women’s group with four clients for two hours on Fridays afternoons and a men’s group with three clients for two hours on Wednesday mornings. Speaking after the first session, Carina says both groups went really well.
"They seemed to enjoy it a lot." |
