Pact Southland would like to thank the Rotary Club of Invercargill for its generosity in providing a grant for safety equipment for Pact’s activities group.

Pact Southland adult community support service coordinator Paula Dawson says the $1000 grant will buy a locator beacon and other safety equipment such as thermal blankets.

"It just ensures people’s safety. The guys can take 10-12 people away."

She says while they do not go into hugely remote areas they are often in places that do not have cellphone coverage and which are quite a walk away from any assistance.

"And it reinforces to the guys in the activity group that you’ve got to be prepared and be safe."

In its grant application Pact explained to Rotary that the activities group promotes physical activity, enjoyment of the outdoors, aids individuals and their wellness and develops their self-determination and self-belief and confidence.
